This train runs in the department of Oriental Pyrenees, in Cerdagne's region,
near Spain and near the Mediterranean Sea.
It is a line of the SNCF (French
National Railways).
This line connects the city of Villefranche de Conflent
(Villefranche - Vernet les Bains's station), 426 m above sea level, with
La Tour de Carol (station of La tour de Carol - Enveigt), in 1232 m of height.
Distance crossed between 2 stations is of 62 km.
The highlight of the line
is in 1592 m, in Bolquère's station, in 30 km of Villefranche.
It
is well a line of mountain, with important declivities.
The route is of a major tourist interest!
It is a single-track constructed line, in the gauge of 1 metre (the normal
way SNCF is of 1,44 m), it is so a more narrow way, better adapted to the relief.
It is electrified, by side rail (3 ° heightened rail, next to the 2
rails of movement, as the Parisian subway), this from the very beginning of
the line. Current is of 850 volts continuous.
To Villefranche, it is in
correspondence with a line SNCF with normal gauge which drives in Perpignan.
At La Tour de Carol, two correspondences:
- normal track SNCF
towards Toulouse
- wide Spanish track towards Barcelona.
The yellow
train serves in particular Font-Romeu and Bourg-Madame..
